Ben & Jerry’s rolls out ‘core’ ice creams with fudgy centers

The duo who gave us ice creams named Cherry Garcia, Chunky Monkey, and Phish Food recently rolled out pints of their new Core line. Ben & Jerry’s is making pints that contain two ice creams, one on each side of a “core” or column of fudge, caramel, or raspberry jam. Each carton ($4.99) is like a sundae, and flavors include Hazed & Confused (chocolate and hazelnut ice creams with fudge chips and a hazelnut fudge core, pictured) and That’s My Jam (chocolate and raspberry ice creams with fudge chips, and a core strip of thick raspberry jam). Eric Fredette, one of the company’s flavor gurus, says the cores are pumped in with a sausage machine. “You can customize each spoonful,” says Fredette. “Everyone has their own way of attacking a pint.” Available at supermarkets.
