Hot fudge’s caramel cousin

The drippy-wax lid that adorns jars of hot fudge from Coop’s MicroCreamery in Watertown has become familiar on store shelves. Now the same eye-catching packaging drips a glossy caramel in a new addition to the line, Salted Caramel sauce ($8 to $12 for 10.6 ounces) crafted in collaboration with caramel maker McCrea’s Candies in Hyde Park. Producer Marc Cooper uses buttery rich and lightly salted cream from Hatchland Farm of North Haverhill, butter from Cabot Creamery in Vermont, and cane sugar rather than corn syrup. “I’m very fussy,” says Cooper, who calls his sauces “kissin’ cousins.” Available at Siena Farms South End, 106 Waltham St., Boston, 617-422-0030; Cardullo’s Gourmet Shoppe, 6 Brattle St., Cambridge, 617-491-8888; Russo’s, 560 Pleasant St., Watertown, 617-923-1500; Marty’s Fine Wines, 675 Washington St., Newton, 617-332-1230; and Roche Bros. locations.
