There are many features to OXO's new Good Grips Glass Scale ($59.99, with batteries) that make it a pleasure to use. For starters, the display panel pulls out from under the platform when you're ready to weigh something and slides back in when you're finished. It has large, easy-to-read numbers, and because it stands away from the platform, large bowls or plates don't obscure the numbers. Also, the display automatically lights up when it's pulled out and will go out after 30 seconds of inactivity, then come on again without losing memory when more weights are added. The scale, which can weigh up to 11 pounds, measures in pounds, ounces, grams, and kilograms. With clearly written directions and only 2 buttons (one for power, another to switch measuring units), the scale is simple to use. The glass surface and display wipe clean with a damp cloth and the scale can be stored on its side, like a cookbook.
