From the Bar: A balanced, complex drink for your holiday table (perhaps like the family sitting at it)

Harvest’s Smoke Show

You could write a graduate thesis on the strategies for pairing wine with a Thanksgiving meal. Or you could make cocktails. The obvious choice would involve some sort of cranberry component, but that evokes cosmos and who wants to wash down stuffing with something so cloying. Bartender Noreen Kiley at Harvard Square’s stalwart Harvest points out that November is peak pomegranate season, and created a drink accordingly: the Smoke Show, which would make a fine addition to the holiday table. It offers a medley of flavors — tart pomegranate; baking spice-laced Becherovka, a Czech liqueur; tangy citrus — each of which goes up against the firm yet gentle smoke of mezcal. Despite the seemingly disparate elements, they all find agreement in a drink that’s balanced yet complex. Ya know — just like any family during the holidays.
