Holiday heart attack week: 5 ways to lower your risk

Call it holiday heart attack week – the week between Christmas and New Year’s – because that’s when heart attack deaths occur at a rate 5 percent higher than the rest of the year. “The large Boston hospitals remain fully staffed in the ER during this week,” said Dr. Ali Raja, an emergency physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, since they expect to be slightly busier than normal treating heart attacks.
