Study finds stroke risk increases with duration of diabetes

Researchers have known for a while that having diabetes, type 1 or type 2, increases risk of stroke. A new study led by researchers at Columbia University found that the risk increases with the number of years a person is diabetic. As the average age at which people are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes falls, more people are living with the disease longer and may require long-standing lifestyle changes to address stroke risk, the authors wrote.
