The idea first came to Mayor Thomas M. Menino during Thanksgiving while he was giving out turkeys to families in need. A woman came in with her son, a youngster seriously overweight. “What chance does this kid have?’’ Menino remembers thinking. “He is only 12-years-old and is already so overweight.’’ From that encounter, Menino’s million-pound challenge was born. The citywide campaign is scheduled to be launched Monday and will encourage Bostonians to shed a collective one million pounds over the next year.

How man tens of pounds has Mumbles the Fat dropped? He ought to be setting examples instead of lecturing and then going off for another helping of gravied mashed potatoes.
The best way to shed a million pounds and save our city is to deport all the illegals back to Mexico and let them rob, rape and pillage at home. We should shed "El Mumbalito" (the Mumbeler) the patron saint of illegals.

Start with healthy school lunches. Many kids have only 2 good meals, breakfast and lunch in school. Make them healthy, fewer carbs, more protein and veggies, less processed food. That will make a big difference for our youngest citizens.
