City finds shedding pounds tough

When it comes to losing weight in Boston, apparently it’s easier said than done.

A citywide campaign, launched by the Boston Public Health Commission with great fanfare in April and aimed at encouraging residents to shed a collective 1 million pounds over a year, is far from hitting the mark.

I am not surprised. Starting exercising made me feel great two years ago, but I gained 10lbs because I was hungrier. I only started losing weight last year when I started counting intake very carefully. And it was much harder and a lot less fun than getting active.

I remember reading about this initiative when it was announced, and I heard about how the website would be "available shortly"...and then I never heard anything else. I wonder if the public health commission just didn't get the word out widely enough. Also, I wonder if the populations they seem to be specifically targeting (judging from the community health centers mentioned in the article) just don't use the internet at as high a rate as the commission might hope, and so aren't recording their successes.
