Doctor who pleaded guilty to distributing pills blocked from license renewal

A doctor who pleaded guilty in Rhode Island last year to conspiring to distribute prescription drug has lost his right to renew his medical license in Massachusetts, under a Board of Registration in Medicine took disciplinary finalized Wednesday.

Robert Villarreal had been a surgeon at Rhode Island Hospital when he was arrested in August 2011 by the US Drug Enforcement Administration. The 34-year-old from Boston was accused of working with another hospital employee to distribute about 29,000 pills, including oxycodone and amphetamines, through forged prescriptions.
