Dr. Thomas Lee to leave Partners for consulting firm

Partners HealthCare’s top doctor is leaving that job to become chief medical officer for consulting group Press Ganey Associates. Dr. Thomas Lee has been the chief executive of the Partners physician organization since 2004 and was previously the hospital chain’s chief medical officer.

He will assume his new role on July 1. In a press release, Lee said the consulting firm will provide “seminal analysis and insights” for change in medicine.

“As organizations transform their operations in response to the dynamic health care environment, there are numerous opportunities to focus improvement strategies based on data specific to unique patient populations and provider cultures,” he said.

Lee, a primary care physician, studied medicine at Cornell University Medical School and has a master’s degree in epidemiology from Harvard School of Public Health. He serves on advisory panels for the Congressional Budget Office, the US Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Healthcare Financial Management Association. He is a member of the board of directors at Geisinger Health System in Pennsylvania.

He will continue to see patients in the Boston area.
