Man diagnosed with first West Nile case of year in Mass.

A Plymouth County man in his 70s has become the first person in the state this year to be diagnosed with West Nile virus. The man was hospitalized but recovering, the Department of Public Health announced Monday.

It is high season for the mosquito-borne disease, which can cause fever and flu-like symptoms. While the virus poses the highest risk to people over age 50, most people infected with West Nile will have no symptoms.
