Nat Faxon took a break from filming “The Way, Way Back” (starring Steve Carell and Maya Rudolph) on the South Shore to attend the Television Critics Association press tour in LA in support of his new Fox sitcom, “Ben and Kate.” The Manchester-by-the-Sea native stars in the series as a lovable doofus who moves in with his sister — played by Dakota Johnson, daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson — to help care for her daughter. Faxon fielded several questions about winning an Oscar for co-writing the (adapted) screenplay for the George Clooney film “The Descendants.” When the Globe caught up with him, Faxon lamented the fact that he hadn’t brought the Oscar back to Boston for the “Way, Way Back” shoot. “I should have, just to get into more Sox games,” he said, laughing. He added it was a lot of fun to finally be home to celebrate winning the Academy Award. “We had a big party a couple of weeks ago. It was sort of like a wedding. People were disappointed I didn’t bring the Oscar, but what are you going to do?” he said, referring to the trophy’s surprising heft. “It’s not like you can just carry it around in your tote. It would exceed the bag limit, I think.”
