Daytime diva Oprah Winfrey made a surprise appearance Thursday at Boston College, where she met with seven young women from South Africa — members of the first graduating class of the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls. The girls are currently studying at BC as part of a summer enrichment experience. (BC is the only US college or university that offers such a program for OWLAG grads.) Oprah created the academy in 2007 to provide a supportive educational environment for disadvantaged South African girls in grades 8 through 12.
