Sox fans got a serious chuckle Thursday when the Yankees’ official Facebook page was hacked, and the team’s 5.9 million Facebook fans were informed that Derek Jeter, the team’s future first-ballot Hall of Fame shortstop, would be out for the rest of the season due to a sex change operation. “He promises to come back stronger than ever in 2013 as Minnie Mantlez,” read the post. The message was quickly scrubbed from the site. The Yankees were one of several MLB teams whose pages were hacked. Others included the Washington Nationals, who alerted fans of a plan to move back to Montreal, the Chicago White Sox, who claimed to be supporting Mitt Romney for president over ChiSox fan Barack Obama, and others. Near as we can tell, the Red Sox page was untouched.
