A rock star in the world of quilting (yes, you read that right) was at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium on Thursday night to talk to folks at the Lowell Quilt Festival about their favorite craft. Marianne Fons, the famous quilter in question, is best known as the cofounder of Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting, a magazine and television show. She’s so famous in the world of quilting that festival organizers expected thousands to flock to her two local events, which were also to feature her quilting daughter, Mary . The Thursday night crowd wasn’t quite as big as organizers hoped, but the Fons women were still surrounded by a posse of dedicated fans.
