Susie Castillo shows off her Patriots pride

Former Miss USA Susie Castillo checks out the latest in women’s apparel from the NFL.

There is no shortage of female Pats fans who would happily model items from the NFL’s new line of women’s apparel. But the league had the good sense to ask Susie Castillo. The Methuen native and former Miss USA poses in a Pats jersey in the NFL’s new “It’s My Team” campaign. (Others in the ad blitz, which Castillo calls “girly but fashion forward,” include Suzanne Johnson, wife of Jets owner Woody Johnson, dancers Kym Johnson and Peta Murgatroyd, former Olympic swimmer Summer Sanders, and Melania Trump, wife of real estate mogul Donald Trump, among others.) Castillo is photographed in a throwback jersey with the Pat Patriot logo, not the Flying Elvis of today’s team. “I prefer the old logos,” she says. “I think most fans do.” The pageant winner admits she was late to the Pats party, having grown up in a large Puerto Rican household that favored baseball and boxing over football. In fact, the first game she ever attended was the Pats Super Bowl win over Carolina in 2004. “I guess I’m spoiled.” What’s her prediction for the new season? “I’m optimistic, of course. Always,” she said. “I really believe in coach (Bill) Belichick.” In other words, in Bill she trusts.
