Because the first family isn’t vacationing there this summer, Martha’s Vineyard is lacking a certain celebrity sizzle. But there are still plenty of VIPs on the island. The other day, celebrated Harvard Law professor Charles Ogletree hosted a forum of former athletes and Olympians. (The discussion, “Between the Lines: Race and Gender in Sports in the 21st Century,” was organized by the Charles Hamilton Houston Institute for Race and Justice, which Ogletree oversees.) Speakers included Jacqueline Frazier-Lyde, a judge and former boxer whose father was the late great Joe Frazier , Wyomia Tyus , a former sprinter who won gold medals in 1960 and 1964, Dr. Wilbert “Skeeter” McClure , a former boxer who took home a gold in 1960, Renee Powell , a golfer whose father, William , built his own golf course in Ohio, and John Carlos , the former sprinter who famously raised his fist on the podium at the 1968 Olympics.
