Seth MacFarlane, Frank Ocean set for SNL opener

‘Family’ episode of ‘SNL’

NBC says the big guy behind the cartoon comedy ‘‘Family Guy’’ will guest host the season’s first ‘‘Saturday Night Live.’’ The network announced Wednesday that Seth MacFarlane will be presiding when ‘‘SNL’’ begins its 38th season Sept. 15. Musical guest will be Frank Ocean. The multitalented MacFarlane (inset) created the Fox series ‘‘Family Guy’’ and serves as writer, producer, and voice artist on the show. He recently directed his first feature film, ‘‘Ted,’’ and furnished the voice for its teddy-bear title character. Future guest hosts on ‘‘SNL’’ this fall include actors Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Daniel Craig. (AP)

Yoko opposes fracking

Yoko Ono and her son, Sean Lennon, on Wednesday launched a coalition of artists, musicians, and filmmakers who oppose hydraulic fracturing in New York state. The formation of the group Artists Against Fracking was announced at a news conference in Manhattan with Ono, Lennon, and Mark Ruffalo, who has long been outspoken on the issue. Other celebrities joining the coalition’s cause include Lady Gaga, Paul McCartney, and Alec Baldwin. The group’s formation comes as Governor Andrew Cuomo prepares to decide whether to allow shale gas drilling using high-volume hydraulic fracturing — or hydrofracking — after four years of studying its health and environmental impacts. More ‘Anger’ for Sheen

FX is ordering 90 more episodes of ‘‘Anger Management,’’ Charlie Sheen’s TV comeback vehicle after being fired from ‘‘Two and a Half Men.’’ The unusually large order reflects the original agreement that FX made for the sitcom that stars Sheen as a therapist. As part of the deal, FX set a ratings target for eight of the first 10 episodes of ‘‘Anger Management.’’ The show reached the threshold, earning an automatic 90-episode order, the channel said. (AP)

Jackson’s kids visit Gary

Michael Jackson’s daughter and older son visited their father’s hometown of Gary, Ind., on what would have been the pop star’s 54th birthday. The children, 14-year-old Paris and 15-year-old Prince, were given T-shirts by Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson as they posed for pictures Wednesday at a casino overlooking Lake Michigan. Nothing was said by the children during the brief presentation. A vigil was planned later Wednesday at the house at 2300 Jackson St. where the Jackson, his siblings, and their parents lived until 1969. (AP)

Rapper Sigel arrested

Pennsylvania State Police say rapper Beanie Sigel has been arrested on weapon and drug charges near Philadelphia. Troopers say Sigel was in a car pulled over for a traffic stop early Wednesday on Interstate 95 in Tinicum Township. Police say they found a gun in the car’s console. They say both Sigel and the driver are felons banned from having such weapons. Sigel, 38, also faces drug charges after troopers say they found him carrying prescription pills and codeine syrup. Sigel’s lawyer did not immediately return a call for comment. Sigel is already scheduled to begin a two-year prison sentence Sept. 12 for failing to pay federal taxes. His real name is Dwight Grant. His new album, ‘‘This Time,’’ was released Tuesday. (AP)
