Ben Affleck talks about his ‘Chasing Amy’ kiss

Ben Affleck isn’t letting the buzz about his new film, “Argo,” go to his head. So what if some critics have begun comparing Affleck, who directs and stars in the international thriller, to celebrated director Alan J. Pakula , our boy Ben knows he still has a few things to learn. For example, in an interview to be published Sunday in The New York Times, Affleck admits that the kiss he planted on Jason Lee in “Chasing Amy” was a poor excuse for a same-sex smooch. “I just blew it,” he tells Frank Bruni. “The kiss is in there, but it looks like Tom & Jerry. It’s not anything good. . . . I tried to go open-mouthed, but something in me was, ‘Take your tongue back.’ And I was like, ‘No, you can do it! Push!’ It was not my proudest moment.” By contrast, Affleck says, his buddy Matt Damon knows the proper way to kiss another man on screen. Damon plays Liberace’s boyfriend in a movie being directed by Steven Soderbergh , and Affleck has seen a few clips of Damon kissing Michael Douglas, who plays the flamboyant pianist. “ Not that it would be hard to be better than my kiss, but it was much better than my kiss. Maybe Michael Douglas is sexier than Jason Lee.”
