The folks at School of Rock Boston tell us that their students have always loved Green Day. “To the point of obsession,” explained Anderson Mar, School of Rock’s general manager. The kids lived the dream this weekend when they performed two “Green Day vs. Weezer” concerts at the Middle East Upstairs in Central Square. On Saturday and Sunday, the teens took on tunes from Green Day albums such as “Dookie” and “American Idiot,” and got poppy with Weezer tracks such as “Buddy Holly” and “Island in the Sun.” Performers included Lee MacWilliams, 16, Iliana Huggins, 14, Kate Martenis, 14, and Nick Hanify (center), 12. Mar tells us that these gigs are not just recitals for the parents of the young musicians, rather, they are full-blown rock shows meant for a guitar-loving audience. Based on Hanify’s rock-star scowl (above), we believe her.
