The American Repertory Theater hosted a screening of Ric Burns’s “Death and the Civil War” on Tuesday night that included a panel discussion with Burns, Harvard History professor Vincent Brown, and Harvard President Drew Faust who wrote “This Republic of Suffering,” the book on which “Death and the Civil War” is based. Also appearing at the event (via video) was cellist Yo-Yo Ma, who played “Happy Birthday” to Faust. WGBH’s premiere date for “Death and the Civil War” happened to fall right on her birthday.
