Chad Johnson avoids jail time

The fall from grace for (former) NFL star Chad Johnson continued Friday as the onetime Pats receiver pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor battery charge stemming from an incident last month with his ex-wife, Evelyn Lozada. Johnson’s lawyers struck a deal with prosecutors that will allow the (former) Pro Bowl pass catcher to avoid spending any time in jail. Instead, he was sentenced to 12 months probation and is also required to spend 26 weeks in a battery-intervention program. “Chad is ready to move on with his life and he is ready to put all this behind him,” his attorney, Adam Swickle, told E! News. “He always lands back on his feet.” Though rarely during his time with the Patriots did he come down with the ball in his hands.
