The Boston Symphony Orchestra set a record over the weekend by raising
$2 million at its opening night festivities. Saturday night’s 540-person, post-concert gala — which was held under a tent on St. Stephen Street and coordinated by event planner Bryan Rafanelli — was chaired by Roberta and Stephen R. Weiner, and drew supporters such as Jack and Eileen Connors and BSO Board of Trustees Chairman Ted Kelly and his wife, Debbie. VIP musicians at the celebration included the night’s conductor and soloist, violinist Itzhak Perlman. The orchestra has five new musicians this season: violist Wesley Collins, third horn Michael Winter, bass trombonist James Markey, and percussionists Kyle Brightwell and Matthew McKay.
