Tim Van Patten in talks to direct ‘The Finest Hours’

Variety reports that Tim Van Patten , who won an Emmy Sunday for directing “Boardwalk Empire,” is in talks to direct “The Finest Hours,” the movie based on the book of the same name by Casey Sherman and Michael Tougias . It would be the first feature for Van Patten, whose credits include episodes of “Game of Thrones,” “The Sopranos,” “The Wire,” “Deadwood,” and “Rome.” (If the name sounds familiar, that’s because it is: He’s the half-brother of “Eight Is Enough” star Dick Van Patten and the uncle of former tennis pro Vince Van Patten .) “The Finest Hours” is the dramatic tale of the 1952 Coast Guard rescue of 84 men off Cape Cod after two oil tankers collided and were badly damaged by waves during a blizzard. The script was written by Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson, who penned “The Fighter.”
