The American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts honored Ethel Kennedy and her daughter Rory with the Women Who Care Humanitarian Award on Tuesday. Said Rory, a documentary filmmaker whose new movie, “Ethel,” airs on HBO Oct. 18: “Red Cross is a ripple, my mother is a ripple, and together we’ll make a giant wave.” Mom and daughter were presented the award by last year’s honoree, former chief justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Margaret Marshall. (She talked about meeting Robert F. Kennedy in her native South Africa.) The event was emceed by Liz Brunner and Candy O’Terry, and guests included Marilyn Riseman, former state Democratic Party chairman Phil Johnston, J.P. Morgan’s C.J. Reed, Charlie Baker’s wife, Lauren, “Maine” author J. Courtney Sullivan, and Randy Susan Meyers, author of “The Comfort of Lies.”
