Aspiring singers and musicians gathered at the TD Garden on Thursday for a shot at performing the national anthem before a Celtics game this season. The 23 finalists showed off their skills before a roster of celebrity judges. The panel that decided the performers’ fate consisted of former Celtics player Walter McCarty (who has also released two R&B albums), Mix 104.1’s Karson and Kennedy, Melissa of JAMN 94.5, American Idol sixth-place finisher Siobhan Magnus, and Laura Gaito and Karin Semizoglou of TD Bank, which presented the event. The night’s grand prize was the opportunity to perform the anthem on the Celtics’ opening night, an honor the judges granted to an a cappella group from Berklee College of Music.
