Monday night, after their show at the Wilbur Theatre, “Modern Family” star Jesse Tyler Ferguson got a surprise from his TV costar, Eric Stonestreet. Stonestreet had called the office of the Boston Gay Men’s Chorus and asked the singers to hide behind the curtain during the show (all 90 of them!) and surprise Ferguson at the end of the show with a happy birthday serenade. After that, they broke into a hysterical rendition of Katy Perry’s “Firework.” This is what the Gay Men’s Chorus told us in a statement: “After the traditional song was sung the BGMC launched into an energetic version of Katy Perry’s ‘Firework’ complete with dancing and streamers. Both Ferguson and Stonestreet sang and danced along with the chorus. The audience cheered and a surprised and excited Ferguson said: ‘This is amazing! These guys are the best. I am so surprised! They are great, great, great! I LOVED having the men of the Boston Gay Men’s Chorus singing to me!’ ” “We were delighted to accommodate Eric’s request,” said Craig Coogan, the organization’s executive director. “Jesse and Eric have been amazing role models for millions of Americans — we were honored to be part of their show.”
