Timberlake: Video from wedding ‘distasteful’

Welcome to the world of celebrity marriages, Justin. The news of Justin Timberlake’s wedding to Jessica Biel is barely a week old and already he is defending the ceremony and his friends who were there. The leaking of a portion of a video that played at the wedding caused Timberlake to write a letter on his website.

According to the Huffington Post, a friend of Timberlake’s, Justin Huchel, a luxury real estate agent, made a video for the couple that showed homeless people sending congratulatory messages. The video, which opens with the words, “Greetings from your Hollywood friends who just couldn’t make it,” was briefly watchable on the website Gawker until legal action was taken. The video was made and “exhibited privately at Justin Timberlake’s wedding as a private joke without Mr. Timberlake’s knowledge,”
attorney Michael J. Saltz wrote.

Timberlake still felt compelled to address its content. “I’d like to start off by saying that I don’t live my life making fun of people (unless, of course, I’m making fun of myself on SNL),” his website letter says. “Especially, those who are less fortunate or those in need. I grew up with a family and community that instilled ideals in me like hard work, honesty, and empathy. As a matter of fact, growing up in Tennessee, I was always taught that we as people, no matter what your race, sex, or stature may be, are equal.”

He insisted he had no knowledge of the video in advance, that his friends are good people who had a lapse in judgment, that the video was not actually shown at the wedding, and that, “I think we can all agree that it was distasteful.”
