NBC’s ‘The Gilded Age’ gets the go-ahead

The producers of “Grey’s Anatomy” must be rather annoyed by NBC’s decision to order a show from “Downton Abbey” producer Julian Fellowes called “The Gilded Age.” Earlier this year, the “Grey’s” folks — including Milton Academy grad Betsy Beers — filmed a pilot around Boston for ABC’s “Gilded Lilys,” which was to be a drama that followed characters who worked and stayed in the first luxury hotel in New York in the late 1800s. “Gilded Lilys,” which starred Blythe Danner, was not picked up despite the buzz surrounding the local drama. According to’s Michael Ausiello, who reported the NBC news yesterday, “The Gilded Age” will be about “the millionaire titans of 1880s New York.” Maybe NBC will want to shoot their pilot up here, too.
