Predicting the future isn’t easy. But that doesn’t stop the Original Tremont Tearoom’s Alex Palermo from trying. And sometimes, he’s even right.
When we spoke to the owner of the nation’s oldest psychic salon a year ago, he told us Mitt Romney would lose, Elizabeth Warren would win, and the Mayans were all mixed up.
“See?” Palermo said not so modestly when we spoke Friday.
OK, but what about this year? What’s in store for us in 2013?
Palermo thinks it’s highly likely Scott Brown will run for John Kerry’s Senate seat, but he doubts that the Wrentham Republican will win.
“It’s going to be a Democrat we’ve all known for a long time,” said Palermo. (Having served in Congress for 36 years, Representative Ed Markey, the only Democrat to announce his candidacy, would certainly seem to qualify.)
If there’s something people should worry about in 2013, Palermo says it’s not the bad economy, it’s the bad weather.
“There’s going to be an earthquake on the East Coast that’s going to cause a tsunami,” he warned. “It’s going to change Boston’s landscape forever.
“I know, I know,” he said when we expressed skepticism. “This is my crazy out-on-a-limb prediction. We’re all going to be flooded by water. But, hey, Jeane Dixon predicted the assassination of President Kennedy.”
Tina, a tarot reader at Regina Russell’s Tea Room in Quincy, isn’t sure about a tsunami, but she also sees a soggy stretch ahead.
“A lot of water,” Tina told us Friday.
Tina isn’t terribly concerned about Kerry’s Senate seat because, she says, “it feels like it’s not going to be anyone super special.” (Before you doubt her bona fides, Tina told us last year that Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen would be having a baby girl in 2012 – and she was right.)
About the Patriots, she’s not optimistic.
“There’s one team out there that’s better than them, but I don’t know who it is,” said Tina, who’s been reading tarot cards for 15 years. “By the way, Gronk is going to break something else, but he’ll be fine.”
And what about the Red Sox? It’s going to be a long summer, predicted Palermo.
“There’s a disease deep inside the team and until that’s cured, they don’t have a chance,” he said. “There’s negative energy and it’s coming down from the grand poobah.”
