Paparazzo killed

A paparazzo was struck by a car and killed on Tuesday in Los Angeles as he darted across a street after snapping pictures of Justin Bieber’s white Ferrari. The teen heartthrob wasn’t in the car. Authorities have withheld the 29-year-old photographer’s name pending notification of relatives. In a statement, Bieber said his prayers were with the photographer’s family. (AP)

British writer and two-time Booker Prize winner Hilary Mantel has been named novelist of the year at Britain’s Costa Book Awards for ‘‘Bring Up the Bodies.’’ Mantel’s achievement Wednesday makes her the first author to win both the Costa novel award and Booker Prize in the same year. (AP)
