The men and women of “Wicked Tuna” weren’t fishing for fame but they’ve found it. Captain Dave Marciano, who heads the Hard Merchandise crew, says he’s starting to get recognized on the street thanks to the first season of the National Geographic show about Gloucester fishermen. “It’s not huge, but locally, everybody knows who we are and that’s a lot of fun. The best thing is the kid fans, which I never expected,” he says of encountering children asking him to autograph their coloring place mats. “They had me sign my autographs with the crayons, it was great.” Not so great was Marciano discovering that the Hard Merchandise had sunk in December thanks to a busted through-hull fitting. But chatting at a Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, Calif., to promote the second season of “Wicked Tuna,” which premieres Sunday at 9 p.m., Marciano was calm about it, saying he was insured and that it was certainly better for it to have happened at the dock than out at sea. The NatGeo crew was in town shooting extra footage for the second season so, Marciano says, “They did film me raising the boat.” Marciano is looking forward to season two, saying the show has “been all positive from my perspective and I think it’s great for the city of Gloucester, especially because of the fishing industry issues.”
