Ben Affleck honored for peace work

“Argo” director and Eastern Congo Initiative founder Ben Affleck was in good company before the Golden Globes this weekend. On Friday, the local celeb was joined by Cindy McCain, Thandie Newton, and Boston University grad Alfre Woodard at the Cinema for Peace 2013 Gala for Humanity, in Beverly Hills, Calif., where he was the guest of honor. (Last year’s Cinema for Peace Awards honored “In the Land of Blood and Honey” director Angelina Jolie.) Affleck also mingled with George Clooney, Steven Spielberg, and Daniel Day-Lewis at the 13th Annual AFI Awards, where “Argo” was celebrated as one of the AFI’s movies of the year.
