Friends, family celebrate Andrew Mazzone’s life

Boston bassist Andrew Mazzone, who passed away last week, was given a most remarkable send-off by several hundred friends and family who filled the Center for Arts at the Armory in Somerville Monday. The memorial celebration included reminiscences of former bandmates Billy Beard, Dana Colley, and Asa Brebner, and inspired performances by Dennis Brennan, who played “Feel Like Going Home,” Jimmy Ryan, who sang “In My Soul,” Laurie Sargent and Stu Kimball doing “Day of Days,’’ Linda Viens singing “Sea of Love,” and the Family Jewels finishing with “Heavenly Light.” Mazzone’s sister, Marty, spoke on behalf of the family, and Stephen Duclos read an original poem. The tribute continued well into the night at Atwood’s Tavern, where some of the musicians played, augmented by a moving performance by Catie Curtis.
