Former Cosmopolitan editor in chief Kate White and singer Patti Austin entertained the standing-room-only crowd at the Boston Women in Media & Entertainment’s “Story Behind Her Success” event at the Copley Westin. White, who was interviewed by Magic 106.7’s Candy O’Terry, told the women in the audience not to forget to “slay the alligators when you drain the swamp.” Channel 5 anchor Liz Brunner then chatted with Austin — Quincy Jones’s goddaughter and a Grammy winner for her album “Avant Gershwin” — who told an amusing story about meeting Justin Bieber, and feeling like the lad might be hitting on her. “You do know I’m old enough to be your grandmother, don’t you?” she told him. The crowd included HGTV’s Taniya Nayak, fashion maven Denise Hajjar, and motivational speaker/mountain climber Wendy Booker.

Correction: Because of incorrect information provided to the Globe, a photo caption in an earlier version of this story misidentified the woman with singer Patti Austin. She is Jaala Davis.
