On the occasion of Diabetes Alert Day, Patriots defensive lineman Vince Wilfork joined New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen at Gilbert H. Hood Middle School in Derry. The politician and the player talked to a crowd of 750 students about the importance of healthy living in combating the disease. Shaheen’s granddaughter Elle was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was 8, and Wilfork’s father died from type 2 at the age of 48. . . .
