Pittsfield’s Elizabeth Banks said no to a soap

Pittsfield’s Elizabeth Banks is on the cover of next month’s special Marie Claire issue devoted to work. Banks tells the magazine about turning down a soap job when she left school. “I was offered a two-year contract on a soap opera right after I graduated,” says Banks, who went to the University of Pennsylvania after graduating Pittsfield High. “It would have paid off all of my student loans, and it was in New York where I wanted to live. I didn’t even have an agent at the time, but I signed with a guy who said to me, ‘You got a soap opera on your first day, let’s see what else you can get.’ ”
