The annual “Literary Lights” dinner hosted by the Associates of the Boston Public Library drew a bevy of boldfacers to the Park Plaza Hotel over the weekend. The black-tie bash, including a candle-lit dinner, raised over $300,000 to benefit the David McCullough Conservation Fund. (The Associates established the fund in 2001 to provide a consistent source of funding for the restoration and preservation of books, manuscripts, works of art, and other ephemera in the library.) Guests included McCullough, who gave the keynote address, Pulitzer Prize-winning novelists Geraldine Brooks and Junot Diaz, Harvard president Drew Gilpin Faust, novelist Joseph Finder, playwright David Lindsay-Abaire, MIT professor Sherry Turkle, children’s books author/illustrator Mo Willems, literary agent “Ike” Williams, filmmaker Ric Burns, “Wicked” author Gregory Maguire, “Guardians of Ga’Hoole” author Kathryn Lasky, writer John Spooner, BPL Associates chairwoman Vivian Spiro, and BPL president Amy Ryan.
