At a time when most musical acts are abandoning major record labels — or being abandoned by record labels — Eli “Paperboy” Reed is doing it the old-fashioned way. Warner Bros. Records announced Thursday it has signed the Boston-born singer and will release his new single, “WooHoo,” on Record Store Day, which takes place Saturday. (But you’ll need to get to Newbury Comics early — Warner Bros. is releasing only 3,000 copies of the single on seven-inch vinyl.) Reed, who’s producing the record with his guitarist, Ryan Spraker, had this to say about his new material: “My style, and in particular my approach, have changed pretty dramatically over the course of the writing of this album.” Time will tell if that’s a good thing.
