Newton actor and writer B.J. Novak is following in the footsteps of his local pal Mindy Kaling by writing a book. Two books, in fact. He’s signed a two-book deal with Alfred A. Knopf. Unlike Boston television star Kaling, who put out a collection of essays in the spirit of Tina Fey ’s “Bossypants,” Novak will release short stories based on his performances with the Upright Citizens Brigade. The Hollywood Reporter says the book deal is seven figures.
