Springsteen lends vocal to Dropkick Murphys song

The Dropkick Murphys have a show in Albuquerque on May 30, so it’s unlikely the band will be shippin’ back to Boston for the star-studded concert that night at TD Garden benefiting the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings. (They’d have to play a short set anyway because the bill for Boston Strong: An Evening of Support and Celebration already includes Aerosmith, Jason Aldean, Boston, Jimmy Buffett, Dane Cook, Extreme, The J. Geils Band, Godsmack, James Taylor, Carole King, and New Kids on The Block, among others.) But the Dropkicks are doing their part. Ken Casey and the boys this week released a three-song EP that includes a new version of the band’s song, “Rose Tattoo,” featuring vocals by Bruce Springsteen. (There are also live acoustic versions of “Don’t Tear Us Apart” and “Jimmy Collins’s Wake,” recorded in Las Vegas in the days after the bombings.) Proceeds from the record, which is available on iTunes, go to victims of the attack by means of the Dropkick Murphys’s Claddagh Fund, created to “serve the most vulnerable in our communities.” “Innocent people being hurt by terrorists fits the core of that mission, and we’re proud to be able to help,” the band wrote on its website. Springsteen worked with the Dropkick Murphys before, singing on “Peg o’ My Heart,” and joined them on stage at the House of Blues.
