Luxury cinema opens in Chestnut Hill

The well-heeled residents of Boston’s western suburbs have a posh new place to view movies and dine. National Amusements threw a private party Wednesday night to celebrate the opening of Showcase SuperLux, its upscale cinema at The Street in Chestnut Hill. Not your father’s movie theater, Showcase SuperLux includes a cocktail bar and Davio’s Cucina, a 250-seat restaurant. (After sampling some tasty apps and swilling a glass or two of chardonnay, guests settled into the theater’s leather armchairs for a sneak peek of the new Morgan Freeman film, “Now You See Me.”) The guest list Wednesday included National Amusements president Shari Redstone, daughter of Sumner Redstone, Davio’s owner Steve DiFillippo, “TV Diner” host Billy Costa, and Patriots owner Robert Kraft, who lives in the neighborhood. Other movers and shakers there included Herb Chambers, Nancy Brady, Karen Holmes Ward, Julie Kahn, Kristina Lyons, and Stephen Mindich.
