Days after Diane Paulus collected her first Tony award for directing the hit musical revival of “Pippin,” she already has her next buzzworthy project. The artistic director at the ART in Cambridge will direct “Waitress,” a musical adaptation of the quirky, sweet 2007 film that starred Keri Russell. Russell played Jenna, a pregnant Southern waitress trapped in a bad marriage who finds happiness by making delicious pies with names, like “I Hate My Husband Pie” and “Baby Screaming Its Head Off in the Middle of the Night and Ruining My Life Pie.” Grammy-nominated pop star Sara Bareilles will handle the score. The musical will also feature the talents of fellow “Pippin” crew — producers Barry and Fran Weissler — and Pulitzer-prize winning playwright Paula Vogel, who will write the adapted script.
