‘Bling Ring’ star Katie Chang rooting for Blackhawks

We were big fans of actress Katie Chang, one of the stars in Sofia Coppola’s new film, “The Bling Ring,” right up until she started talking to us about hockey. “I grew up in a hockey family and my dad is from Minnesota and my brothers play hockey,” said Chang (inset) in Boston Thursday to promote the movie. “We’re diehard hockey fans and I’m definitely rooting for the Blackhawks. I stayed up way too late last night watching it.” We did, too, and maybe that’s why her support for the Bruins’ opponent in the Stanley Cup Finals annoyed us. (The Bruins lost Game 1 in three overtimes.) The movie, about a group of teenagers who rob from the Hollywood homes of celebs like Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, and Orlando Bloom, opens next week. While Chang isn’t much like the character she plays, she dresses the part. She showed up to Wednesday’s screening at the Somerville Theatre in a Phillip Lim dress, Jimmy Choo shoes, and Jennifer Fisher jewelry. Of course, we couldn’t resist asking Chang who she might rob if given the chance. “I don’t think I really would want to rob him but I’ve always wanted to see what the inside of Elton John’s house looks like,” she said.
