Hoping to score starring role in film about Pele

Young athletes with an interest in acting gathered in Allston on Saturday to audition for a soon-to-be-filmed biopic about Brazilian soccer star Pele. Ron Howard and Brian Grazer’s Imagine Entertainment is conducting a national search for someone to play the sports legend, who’s now 72. The movie will focus on Pele’s childhood to his first World Cup win in 1958. Boston Casting had sent out a call for 17- to 30-year-olds, adding, “MUST resemble Pele. MUST have soccer experience. Fluent in Brazilian Portuguese is a plus!” Locals who attended the audition included (from left) Leonardo Alvarenga of Randolph (who was accompanied
by his dad, Laerte Alvarenga), and Leroy Chifamba and Jeffrey Kiongera of Lowell.
