Seth Meyers preps for new job while doing old job

As everyone knows, Seth Meyers will be taking the “Late Night” reins when Jimmy Fallon departs after the Olympics to host “The Tonight Show.” But in the meantime, the New Hampshire native (inset) is keeping busy with a new animated series on Hulu. “The Awesomes,” created with partner Michael Shoemaker, is about a group of Z-list superheroes who take over when the A-list heroes quit. Meyers, the longtime lead writer of “Saturday Night Live,” didn’t have to look far to cast his voice actors, including Kenan Thompson, Bill Hader, and Taran Killam. “The great thing about working with the ‘SNL’ cast for voice stuff, as with anything else, is they’re so quick to get what you’re asking them to do,” Meyers told reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills. He confirmed that he’ll be back as anchor of “Weekend Update” in the fall before he takes over at “Late Night.” “I’ll stay at the desk until they give me a new desk,” he said. Meyers is in the process of hiring staff for the show and he also recently got engaged to longtime girlfriend Alexi Ashe, although it sounds like she’s doing most of the wedding planning. “Nothing like telling your fiancee, I’d love to do a cake tasting, but I have to go to Comic-Con,” Meyers quipped.
