Foodies, friends, and co-workers gathered Tuesday in the kitchen of the Carney Dining Hall at Boston College as Bob Luz , president and CEO of the Massachusetts Restaurant Association, presented the MRA’s Cook of the Year Award to Marlon Mazier, a 30-year employee of Boston College Dining Services. Mazier was unable to accept his trophy at the MRA’s awards gala on Oct. 28. He was in his native Honduras with his family, mourning the passing of his father, Arturo, who was also an employee of BC’s Dining Services for 25 years. “He was the one who got me this job,” Mazier said. “It’s sad that he died before I won it.” Mazier is the first cook from a nontraditional establishment to win the award, beating out contenders from well-regarded fine-dining restaurants. “It was as much about the cooking and commitment to making certain that every guest is satisfied 100 percent of the time, as it was the impact he has on his co-workers and teammates,” Luz said. “He brings a passion to the business that’s contagious.”
