When she’s not busy working toward her next Academy Award nomination, Meryl Streep (inset) will be creating two scholarship funds for students at the UMass-Lowell. The actress, whose nomination this year is her 18th, will create the Meryl Streep Endowed Scholarship Fund when she visits the school next month. The fund will help English majors pay for their education. She’ll also establish the Joan Hertzberg Endowed Scholarship to support students who excel in mathematics, school officials said Wednesday. (The scholarship is named after Streep’s former Vassar classmate who transferred to Williams College and went on to become valedictorian of the college’s first graduating class to include women.) Streep is scheduled to discuss her 50-year acting career Feb. 5 at the Tsongas Center at UMass-Lowell. “A Conversation With Meryl Streep” will be moderated by Andre Dubus III , the bestselling author and professor of English at Lowell. It’s the second in the school’s new “Chancellor’s Speaker Series.” The first featured author Stephen King.
