The cast of the SpeakEasy Stage Company’s production of “The Color Purple” gathered at the Beehive on Monday night to perform a tribute to Aretha Franklin . Actresses who took on hits by the Queen of Soul included Deborah Pierre, Valerie Houston, Aubin Wise, and Crystin Gilmore. In “The Color Purple,” they play, respectively, Celie (as understudy), Sofia, Nettie, and Shug Avery.
