Sports and stats gurus gathered Friday for the annual MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference, where big-time athletes, journalists, and corporate types geek out (we mean that in the best way) about number-crunching and all the ways to exploit that data. The two-day event kicked off at the Hynes Convention Center where a sold-out crowd, along with dozens of representatives from the MLB, NFL, and almost every other league you can think of, hung on every word from two of the biggest names in sports analytics: Nate Silver (left) and Bill James (right). Other VIPs expected to attend included Phil Jackson, Malcolm Gladwell, Celtics head coach Brad Stevens, Patriots’ president Jonathan Kraft, and Red Sox (and Boston Globe) owner John Henry.
